    Although safe motherhood has remained high on the political agenda, the scope of what constitutes "safer" motherhood has changed considerably. A major factor has been the incorporation of a human rights approach into the definition of Safe Motherhood following the agenda set at the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). Take action in your community to share free guides and resources, promote our services, and end addiction.     The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood was set up in May in the US by several international organizations to increase awareness of the need for safe pregnancy and childbirth. The Alliance aims to foster grassroots efforts that complement the work of the Safe Motherhood Initiative, and to build alliances and act as a catalyst for action. Addressing this growing global burden will require mobilization of the entire cancer community and strong leadership from our co-equal partners in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. The American Cancer Society is uniquely positioned to be a global leader and convener dedicated to reducing the burden of this disease.
